The Yoga Reset: A Mind & Body Recharge

By: Jennifer Much

Being surrounded by the beautiful fall colors eludes to a subtle reminder that those leaves will soon fall. While they will re-emerge again in spring, nature shows us that all things can benefit from a reset - including us!

Much like a tree, we are rooted here in the moment, in a life filled with joy, change, challenge, and sometimes, a little chaos. Through the practice of yoga, which has been around for over 5,000 years, we grow, become inspired and heal. Yoga takes us on a satisfying journey to help us recognize an evolution within ourselves and provides a natural way to find balance.

As we currently experience the Vata dosha, there is no better time to turn to yoga to help facilitate a change. While Vata is traditionally associated with coldness and irregularity, it is also changeable and moving which creates the perfect platform for caring for ourselves.

Strengthen the Body & Recharge the Mind
Yoga is a multi-faceted healer that can work every muscle and reform delicate and complex emotions. Together, the profound impact yoga has makes it a beneficial and celebrated practice for individuals of all ages and abilities.

Yoga can drive our self care regimens as it allows us to engage on a personal level. When you join us in the studio, you'll quickly find that there is no better way to care for your soul than by recharging your mind and body with yoga. We hope our classes, and perhaps a quiet massage therapy session or sound healing session, will inspire a change within you and help you feel refreshed!

Some researchers also say practicing yoga may delay the aging process, reduce the risk of heart disease, boost the immune system and help you get a better night's sleep. Of course, we know that gentle stretching paired with meditation works to reduce stress, which may have been what brought many yogis to the mat from the start! Stress can wreak havoc on our bodies both physically and mentally.

Clearly, yoga is for more than just our bodies. Just as they say, the mind is a rather influential tool, but it really is a true powerhouse in itself, especially with yoga serving as its gateway. By practicing yoga, it is also possible to focus the mind in ways that many may never have realized was even possible, including to relieve emotional disturbances or to manage various mental health conditions.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), a 2021 study found that yoga could help effectively treat symptoms of conditions such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), depression, and anxiety. Assessments showed a significant improvement in both HAM-D and Y-BOCS scores after only one month of yoga participation.

While yoga triumphantly serves as a holistic accompaniment to health management, individuals should continue to consult their physician for their individual medical care needs.
