Just like in our homes, our habits can collect dust; life gets busy and priorities are shuffled around. Then comes the Spring Equinox, a beautiful season that inspires us to refresh and suddenly, our modes quickly shift. We open the windows, scrub baseboards, spend an entire day cleaning out clutter in the garage, and perhaps we tackle that overflowing closet and ditch the item that we swore to ourselves we would eventually wear…but didn’t. But there’s one space that often gets overlooked the most: our minds.
When our body, mind and soul needs it most, we look to the practice of self-care. Self-care is generously versatile and receptive as it grows with you. In fact, change is embraced, celebrated even. What worked for you six months ago may not serve you now and making intuitive adjustments just strengthens the impact of your new routine. Let go of routines that feel heavy or obligatory as self-care should support you uniquely, not cause more stress!
Ways to Mindfully Spring Clean
As you begin your own journey of spring cleaning, consider these helpful tips.
Clear Out the Mental Clutter
Spring doesn't only employ our physical senses, but appeases our mental ones, too. Take notice of habits that drain your energy, instances of overcommitment, any negative self-talk, and all that endless scrolling throughout the day. Instead, create small boundaries that protect your peace. Clearing mental clutter creates calmness and clarity and helps amplify the perfect balance; you don’t want anything to be a part of that equation that negates positive change.
Accept the Refresh and Reimagine
Routines aren’t just about planning, they are about engagement. By welcoming change, we can reimagine our system which ultimately inches us closer to our goals. This could look like taking a morning walk in the sunshine, devoting time for a weekly yoga session, cooking fresh, seasonal meals, practicing gratitude and beyond.
Choose Aligning Habits
No matter what you choose, choose with a grateful heart and intention. Choose habits that align with how you want to feel this season - and that is lighter, calmer, energized, and focused! Just as a captain alters their course with changing weather, you are in control of your own ship. Saying ‘no’ can feel outwardly difficult, but by setting clear boundaries and following them, habits transform into second nature.
The Most Powerful Practice
In a world that constantly asks us to do more, stay connected, and move a little faster, self-care can slip to the bottom of our list. But self-care is more than just bubble baths and treats, it’s about creating a consistent practice to support your body and mind, and that’s where yoga comes in!
Yoga can fit into your routine whether it’s 20 minutes dotted somewhere in your day or an hour stretched out in our studio. Physically, it improves balance, flexibility, and strength, but mentally, it offers much more. Come experience all that here, in a space designed to breathe, a space for slowing down, and a space to instill a reconnection with yourself.
How Yoga Helps You Refresh
Yoga can accentuate self-care routines in many ways as it matches the energy of renewal. As you move through the poses, you open your body up to change, stretch tight muscles, expand your breath, and create a balanced opportunity to shake off the dust and step into something new.
Adding a yoga session to your routine can also:
Bring focus to breathwork and mindful movement
Help transition out of winter mode
Encourage healthy joints and circulation
Decrease stress and built-up tension
Boost Serotonin and regulate vital systems
